As one Bixby retires, another will take the top spot at Kansas City Life Insurance Co.
On Monday, the Kansas City-based insurance company’s board elected Walter “Web” Bixby as its CEO. He succeeds his brother R. Philip Bixby, who retired after 45 years at the company, including 24 years as CEO.
Established in 1895, Kansas City Life (OTCQX: KCLI) has been led by a member of the Bixby family since 1904. It sells life insurance and annuities nationwide.
According to a release, Web Bixby is a fourth-generation member of the Bixby leadership. He has held a variety of roles in his 40 years with the company. Currently, he is vice chairman of the board, president of Old American Insurance Co. and CEO of Grange Life Insurance Co.
R. Philip Bixby remains Kansas City Life’s chairman.
In 2021, the company reported revenue of $511.3 million and assets of $5.43 billion. The same year, it reported 455 local employees.
